16" ball jointed dolls..... input needed please.

As the likelehood of me ever affording another full sized doll is fairly remote (lottery wins pending !) I have started looking into BJD's as I miss taking photos.

Now Stacy ,Everhard,Bruce and Bronwen all have BJD's, tried to find the threads where these where mentioned with no luck. Anyone have a link please?

I have started looking into Tonner dolls ,narrowing it down to the BW bodys which seem the most poseable from my limited researches so far.

So, any imput from our readers would welcome on other poseable 16" dolls , but they must be fully articulated and adult.

Look foward to the expected flood of replies............ :)

Rentell,

It looks to me like many members of this forum are becoming interested in BJDs... all to the good, I think. I don't have any myself, but enjoy them vicariously through others' photos on a bunch of different websites.

Griffonfeathers is something of an expert on BJDs, so I'm betting we'll hear from her soon. :)

Merry Xmas!

Thanks for the reply.

(Qoute....through others' photos on a bunch of different websites.)
Would you have any of those links to hand maybe?

Yes , I knew Griffonfeathers is a collector so I do hope she will find time to enlighten me ,advice on the best doll is what I seek.

Happy Holidays y'all.
Ray.

Well, since you asked so nicely...

http://www.controversialdoll.com/

http://mirandawandering.blogspot.com/ (One of Griff's blogs)

http://www.denofangels.com/forums/

http://www.iplehouse.net/

http://www.dairylandbjd.com/

Generally speaking, my Teddy Babes keep me too busy to spend much time on these sites... and there are probably many more I don't have a clue about. But they're a pretty good start.

*blush* I dunno about expert, but I certainly am an addict. :)

Fully articulated and adult, but in the 16" size, right?

Off the top of my head I have two recommendations.

First, check out the Impldolls. Their (slightly misnamed) "Child" line are 16" dolls with mature bodies and they are some of the best posing BJDs I've ever met. - http://www.impldoll.com/product_list.php?id=18 And they're even prettier in person. :)

They are Chinese dolls, so they're more affordable than some of the other dolls their size, but I am really pleased with their quality. Especially for the money. Their resin has a really nice translucent quality to it, which gives them a very "warm" sense in photography, IMHO anyway.

Next step up, for poseability and beauty, check out the Fairyland Minifees.

http://www.dollfairyland.com/shop/step_ ... 0124040644

If you go with the "a la carte" option, you can choose the head, body, bust, legs, hands, etc that you want. It is truly a custom made doll, just for you. :) The "Active" line of those dolls are incredibly poseable and I think they're really beautiful. Their resin is high quality and the company is awesome. They feature magnetic hands so you can change hands easily for different poses/looks.

Off the top of my head, for poseability and beauty, those are the two lines that immediately pop to mind. The doll store I work for carries both of these lines, and that's why I'm familiar with them. There may be other lines I haven't met that are also really great and I'm sure other BJD owners here have their favorites too. :)

I hope you find lots of information about BJDs, Rentell, and if I can help just let me know, okay? :)

I must run off to work for a couple hours, but I'm sure I'll be back around this afternoon. Probably just as well, I have a bad tendency not to be able to shut up on the topic of BJDs. I love them, and they're what lead me here! :)

Merry Christmas!!! And happy doll researching, Rentell!

Like Griffonfeathers suggests, the minifees are wonderful. I have 2 minifee-unoa hybrids and they are by far the best posers of all my dolls. I also like the womanish body shapes they have. There is another company that does a 16" adult body with BIG boobs but I don't remember off the top of my head who that is. I also have a Narae which have the most exquisite faces but a rather petite body that could appear less mature, or just less busty. The face is mature. The Narae is French Resin though which means she yellows in sunlight. I got mine pre-owned and she is very yellowed. I find it off-putting in person but she's wonderful in photographs.

Here is another BJD thread that was going around:

Thank you so much everyone who has replied so far, another fascinating doll world to explore.

My apologies , maybe I should of been more specific in describing the dolls I have in mind.

The ones I have in mind are these .....
An example;

Image

I believe there called fashion dolls.
This one is Tonner Tyler 16" Kir Royale Carrie Chan repaint by Ravendolz
They also have some amazing costumes, lucky we all have such different tastes in dolls. :)

According to the descriptions and photos of some of the dolls their range of movement is quite astonishing so I guess I need something more lifelike than maybe anime inspired models.

Its been an interesting wander into another world, I had no idea there where so many different dolls around, thanks again everyone, now back to wrapping the presents ..... :)

Hi Rentell, Wow she looks fantastic 8O :D , would love to see a full photo of her. Maybe we need another forum for these dolls as they are becoming very popular. I know Stacy has a couple of very cool looking ones :D

She's a beauty. They seem to be on the increase around here :) I can't help but wonder why no manufacturers have made life size dolls like this. True they are not as perfect for nudes, but posing and functionality would be really great.

Still, rentell, I wish you good fortune and hope you do win the lottery as I have always very much enjoyed your photos at TDF and CoverDoll.

Bianca, the reason that there aren't life size dolls like the BJDs is because the BJDs are very heavy for their size (made of resin) and they are able to pose because they are jointed with thick elastic inside. There isn't an elastic that would be thick or strong enough to tolerate the tensions at full scale. As it is, these dolls are VERY tricky for posing and don't have the range of motion that many of the life size silicone dolls do.

Rentell, if you're looking for fashion dolls those are actually a different sub-category to the BJDs. BJDs are not as "dainty" in build although the height is the same. The fashion dolls are more of a Barbie build so they look taller. There is a spectacular selection of the resin ones on the Dollmore website. I've got a bunch on my wish list even though I prefer the glass-eyed dolls to the painted-eye ones. http://www.dollmore.net/shop/step_subma ... 0522103756
On that website they also have the 60cm ball jointed resin fashion dolls as well as 12" ones. For clothing choices, the 12" would be most desirable because Barbie clothes will fit. The 16" size is great to show and photograph though, and you can see there is plenty of clothing available on the Dollmore site. The 16" BJD clothes/shoes will not fit the fashion dolls.

Hey Patricia!

that is a very sexy BJD you have there. And I agree, i think they can be very sexy too -

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/griffonfea ... 093180431/" title="365 Toy Project 016/365: She Knows If You've Been Bad by WendyWithDolls, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3081/309 ... bff68c.jpg" width="287" height="500" alt="365 Toy Project 016/365: She Knows If You've Been Bad"></a>

Hey Bianca, there WAS a 1:1 scale, resin BJD done, but the company doesn't offer her anymore. As Bronwen said, the weight... holy cats, I cannot even imagine how much she must've weighed. The only information I've found still available about her is a video on Youtube.
It's a shame, I would've loved to have seen one in person. :)

Okay prepare to be dazzled!!!!! (although I ADORE Tonner dolls and own about 80 of them!!!). Here are some links to get you started:

http://www.superfrock.com/front.html (one of my favorite doll manufacturers and based out of London)

http://www.dollmore.net/

http://www.ficondoll.com/

http://www.dimdoll.com/

And for a REALLY cheap BJD there is Delilah from Ashton Drake.

There are so many more, but I don't want to confuse you. The Sybarites pose very well- I have two they are very coveted dolls. The Ficon doll could be tied for pose-ability and I adore them, I have two Sybs and two Ficon dolls. Many dolls sell out rather quickly- the 16" doll world is vast and there are many rabid collectors.

Please feel free to ask me ANYTHING- my first love was always the small dolls!!!!!!!

kisses, huggies and merry xmas my dear!

Um, I know its not polite to hijack other peoples threads, but I cannot resist to ask a question ...
What model is Reynaert, whom I found on Griffonfeathers livejournal blog?

I just like Elfdolls ...
(Oh, and I wish I would look that good when just waking up :) )

Rentell,

These ones are all, except cheap... Souldoll, though most of them are bigger than 16" (more 60 and 70 cm dolls, thus almost half scale of a real human, like I want my minidoll)

http://www.souldoll.com/index.php

These are beauties.
By the way I use a lot BJD parts and accesoiry for the DreamQueen mini!
