Slide sheets for moving dolls

Post by trendysteven »

I was chatting to my Mum (of all people) today - she is a carer for the disabled and she mentioned 'slide sheets' - I had not heard of them before and a cursory glance / search on TDF didn't find anything so I thought I'd mention them here as they sound like they would be super handy for moving dolls around.

It's two low friction sheets that together allow you to easily reposition a person and it looked much easier than the deadlift method I have been using!

They are not too expensive: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Slide-Sheet/s?k=Slide+Sheet

Here's an NHS video on how they work. Seems like it could be pretty useful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arqG_2ftfOY

Apologies if everyone already knows about these!

Cheers
S

I can't see myself how these would be used 🤔

It seems like the only uses of these sheets are repositioning and potentially the replacement of bedding.

Maybe you could explain a little more how these could be utilised?

I use thick plastic sheets for this
(repurposed dog food sacks work well :) )
but I've gotta say I'm liking the look of the real thing with handy handles to make things easier

You could just use a regular old blanket, which is what I do for some moves. Anything to minimize the amount of dead lifting. Office chairs with wheels, three-wheeled hand truck for stairs etc. there’s also a lot of products used by elderly care- givers that you could use. One interesting one is a body harness with handles to lift the patient. Kinda perfect for dolls.

Haha maybe it's just me - I have quite a wide bed and I often need to reposition my doll, and I want to try and avoid any friction on her skin so I pick her up entirely each time with arms under her legs and waist. After doing this a number of times in a single evening my back is a bit sore as she's on the heavy side (40kg).

With these I could very easily move her around, without worrying about accidentally rubbing her skin against the bedclothes and causing micro tears.

The technique for getting the sheet underneath without lifting was also interesting, I guess you could do that with a regular blanket, but these are designed specifically to be low friction so in my mind, perfect for delicate skinned dolls!

Again, I'm sure it's all old news to most but I thought it might be interesting :)

I use blankets (wool material) instead. But thanks I think it’s a great alternative too 😊
