It depends on what you want. If you are honest with yourself, the answer is probably not extreme bondage. Your doll is a work of art and you should want to make her look like someone you want to be with. Avoid dark colours as they tend to stain, perhaps start with white or silver. Best bet is to check out the pics that others have submitted. Its up to you. That's the joy.

Depends on the doll, shape, size and so forth, but in general, dolls can wear regular human clothes. Just takes some measurements, cross reference that with clothing manufacturer size charts and have at it.

-Something inexpensive
-Nothing that could stain (This removed dark and black items from consideration)
-Something easy to slip on and off
-Something sexy and feminine to fit her personality

The solution: A loose-fitting, second-hand top from a thrift store! It is easy to find great items under $5

As a newbie myself once, and not sure of how to dress my first doll without damaging her, I began by draping my doll in a mauve window voile I had hanging around. You can purchase these nylon voiles, cheaply in many colours, in places like Dunelm, at various lengths. You can use a long narrow piece of silk as a belt if needs be. Shorten it, lengthen it, drop it off one shoulder. Create a veil even. A provocative look, or a more reserved look.
So I did it this way, whilst studying relevant topics on this forum and finding the correct way to dress her without causing tears under the arms, or breaking those delicate fingers.
Even today, I still use the voile technique between deciding what to dress (my many) dolls in.
So this is how I found I could get a better idea of her proportions before I bought her any clothes, and dared to dress her.
I do occasionally buy new clothes, but most of the time I get great stuff from the charity shop.
The good thing being that if you go for darker clothes, there's a good chance the article wil have been washed many times previously. Still, if your in doubt, handwash the article until no more dye is visible.

My girls' wardrobe spans a broad range of styles from across the decades and genres. What are your tastes? Vintage... contemporary... swimsuits... sci fi... movie characters... niche stuff like nurses, maids, pirates, barmaids... cosplay? There's so much out there and provided that your doll doesn't have extreme proportions it's not that difficult to use size charts provided by retailers to figure out what might fit. Do keep in mind that Chinese manufacturers tend to err on the petite side, so what they consider "S" may turn out to be a westerner's idea of "XS" or even "XXS". I think that the best way to boost your shopping success is to get a cloth measuring tape and use it to determine your doll's exact measurements. Draft and print a reference card that you can use to compare the online size charts for various garments and take it with you if and when you shop the brick n' mortar stores.

Yes. View the size charts when available, I rarely have issues ordering clothes for my dolls. I rarely (almost never) buy in person because I can get cheaper stuff online with better variety. I can get things that fit exact 90% of the time thanks to the measurements being listed, and often times photo reviews are available.

When I buy a cheap stuff from AE or one of the many Chinese "boutique" stores (shein, zaful, zulily, boutiquefeel etc) I'm concerned with how it looks, but not how long I expect it to last as its not really being worn (a cheap shoe might not last long with real wear, butnon the doll it wont get wear and tear).

As long as it doesn't fall apart in the wash; I use a lingerie bag on anything with webbing.

As stated, either don’t get darker colours and go for whites, nude, beige etc to avoid staining…or if you do get darker colours wash them several times before putting them on her…particularly lingerie that’ll be on her the longest amount on time…well…with my girl it is

Sizing can be difficult with our girls. Usually a lot smaller, apart from boob volume, everywhere. And because of the unrealistic measurement difference between hip and waist….bust and underbust, getting a perfect fit can take time but it’s not impossible.

But measure her first and as Mr Franz so perfectly put it, have at it

Yes, I dress up my dolls. My gents are dressed in business suits; I love a good black pinstripe suit and a crisp white long sleeve dress shirt. When I had my lady, she would wear pretty dresses, as I dressed her like a "Stepford Wife", all classy and such. I get all their clothes from second-hand / thrift retailers in my area.

Yeah dressing up dolls is fun!

At the beginning I was more focused on sexy lingerie and the like.

Now I really prefer coming up with outfits and seeing what would go well together.
