Post by starion »

Let's say I wanted to change the color of a latex doll. What's the best product to do that and will have the greatest elasticity. or wont flake off? Any ideas....I know a bit about silicone but not latex.

latex color changing

Post by timetraveler1 »

hello starion , i think freddy had the best way so far (that is known to work for sure ) by spraying the inflated or stuffed body with a latex spray not aresole . below is what i saved from an earlier post of his , the e-bay item has been over along time ago , but people still sell the product . i have thought of trying to dye (hair dye ?) the product but havent experimented on a latex balloon first (dont want to mess up a doll. ) hope this helps. :D

LATEX SPRAY ON LATEX DOLL BODY PROJECT : BY FREDDY
Here's the latest on my BLD project. After even more trial & error I managed to mix liquid latex to match the dolls head & learned the best ways to thin & spray it.The match is better than it looks in the photo.

I sprayed a scrap latex doll hand (that's all so far)which may not sound like much, but I believe I've accomplished the hardest part of the project, the rest will be easy. Here's the results so far:

Once the latex is tinted to the desired shade (it dries very much darker)I thin it about 1 part warm water to 3 parts latex. it took 3 separate coats to get the shade in the photo.

When the latex has cured (about 24 hrs) it becomes part of the doll's skin making it thicker & more durable. It can be stretched or inflated with no problems.

I sprayed this with a double action airbrush, it is fine for small areas, but even with that it just don't seem to have enough power to spray latex properly.I'm going to use a HVLP spraygun to do the whole doll.

I bought the latex here on Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WD1V
Check their store for different sizes & prices.I bought tan, flesh & chocolate to mix together thinking I could come up with the right tint to match my doll head.I still had to add brown latex paint to get it right.

I decided on this already colored latex because I thought it would be easier than tinting from scratch. If I do it again,I'll use natural liquid latex, it's pretty close to flesh color to start with & since I had to use paint to tint it, it was really no benifit.

As for preporation all I did was wipe down the latex to be sprayed with acetone.

The airbrush I used cost $15.99 Got it here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WD1V
This is a great deal with free shipping. It comes with compressed air,I don't know how well it works becauce I used my compressor.

I recommend this HVLP spray gun if you have a compressor:

Yes it is body latex, I read somewhere the only difference is they use less amonia.I sure can't tell by the smell.

This is very durable, once it's cured you can't scrape it off , mar it, it's just like the original doll skin latex.

I got some on my pants, it dried before I noticed it. I couldn't scrape it off,I washed the pants & its still there. It sticks to any pourious object like glue.

I believe you could make your cloth doll into a latex one by spraying it with this & maybe hide the seams too.

My idea would be stuff a body stocking to your desired shape.Spray it with coats to a good thickness.Add one of your heads done the same way& you may have a very unique doll.

I plan on spraying my doll body soon(waiting for better weather)I'll spray some different materials & post results & pictures.

Here's the latest on this project. I sprayed the body & it came out quite well, notice how much darker the latex dries.

Here it is completely dry (about an hour) this is the fourth separate coat.On the first the spraygun kept getting clogged so I thinned it 40% water 60% latex instead of 25/75, no more problems after that, sprayed great. .

The more it's thinned, the more coats it takes to achieve the full color. At this stage I've used about 9 ozs of thinned latex.

I'm not going to go into major detail on this, but if anyone interested has a question & I have the answer, I will gladly reply.

The doll is a French Madame the tools & latex were bought here:

The airbrush is great for detail work(if you need that) I used it to spray the palms & bottom of the feet in contrast of the two colors, probably could have got by without it, but it did a very nice job.

The HVLP gun is a must to spray the body, an airbrush(the one I have) only has a max.2" spray pattern, It would have taking forever to spray the body & wouldn't had turned out nearly as well.

Thanks Everyone,

I'm not into tan lines, but it would be easy to do with this process,Simply use an old bikini or make one from some cloth, then spray it.

The only problem is latex won't stick to the newer French Madame head.As a matter of fact the only thing I found that will is Aquaseal used for repairing wetsuits. Also it wont stick to a vinyl doll.

The glue they use to attach the head? Is bad ass,I've tried all the tricks & still can't get it loose without tearing it. I'm just going to cut the head off around the latex neck sleeve & head where they meet .(No problem, since I'm using another head anyway).

I 'll then cut the excisting head & neck sleeve down the back, glue a piece of latex over the cut to make an expandable sleeve that should hold the head in place without any glue.

As for as the cured sprayed latex, this is not a paint, it is part of the skin check it out:

Here's the latest on my project:

I'm still working on the skeleton(keep changing my mind) the vagina in the photo was molded in latex(by me).The pubic hair(cut from the wig in the pic) was tediously put in place with clear liquid latex, which is now permanent.
Here's a close up:
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-9/8 ... vagina.jpg

All that's left is to make a navel, install the skeleton & vagina , stuff & attach the head.I am very happy with the results so far.
