Tightening WM back joint (side to side)

Post by bigchilli »

One of my 166c's has recently developed a very loose back joint
Her back and forward movement on the back is incredibly tight but the side to side movement has become very loose
She can stand but if you nudge her slightly left or right she bends right down

Is it just a case of loosening the front/back joint and tightening the side to side?

I opened her up and loosened the lower back joint and tightened the upper one
Now it's much better but should I be using some kind of thread lock etc?
I really don't want to have to fully remove the nuts if I don't have too

Any advice would be much appreciated

you will need to use Loctite or you will need to open her again if she gets loose. i think dimpling it wont work and would be too hard to get in there

Loctite 243 would probably do the job. The higher the number, the stronger the bond and the more heat you have to apply to brake the bond ( should you need to ). I suggest adding in a star washer as well.

Ok thanks guys
I thought as much, just wanted to clarify

Gonna get some thread lock
No pics or that yet dog meat

I will be using 3m primer to close her then heat (spoon) to smooth the area

Will take some pics as I go and probably put them in Cici's thread

We could switch... :D

My 157b never bent sideways at her back joint but since a few weeks she slumps forward or backward on the slightest touch.

Fun aside, being thinking of opening her back as well to loosen/retighten her back joint. I'm only in fear that as sideways is not "hard moving" bot "not moving at all" there might be a bigger issue.

Yeah I couldn't really get mine to move forwards or backwards either but it never really bothered me
Lossened the back/front and tightened side/side
All good now

Next up,loctite and sealing her up

Then on to replacing the fingers ooh
It never ends
