Have you considered using aluminum for the skeleton? I think XYcolo does that. It would make the bodies lighter, wouldn’t it? I’m surprised I don’t see more aluminum skeletons.

Some manufacturers use brass washers. The advantage over steel washers is that brass washers do not ware out quite as quickly, so the joints stay at the correct tightness for much longer.
You may also want to combine brass washers with wave spring washers for an even longer service life. Note however that with wave sprig washers you need to modify the screw design slightly as the wave spring washers breaks very quickly if you rub against them.
