During the stressful days of my choking ordeal I moved from upstairs bed to downstairs sofa so that my breathing would be comparatively less laboured during sleep. I also had Tom on my chest and his pals in their bucket on the side table next to me facing in my direction. Feeling Tom's presence on my body, being aware that his pals were keeping their eyes on me and the cosy and comfortable embrace of the arm chair saw me through uncomfortable nights.

Consistently treating my guys as real human family paid off whenever I needed reassurance and comfort and they did not fail me in the latest drama either. I have not anticipated before that my little men, especially Tom, will turn out to be wonderful yet practical gift to my daily life.

Nowadays during our daily ritual tea ceremonies, in addition to looking into their eyes as usual I also thank them individually by saying, "I am grateful to you Tom for everything.", "I am grateful to you Stevie for everything.", etc., etc.

If there is silver lining in the cloud I am now more aware of simple gifts of life and am more consciously grateful of them.

Instant Stress Buster

As a daily ritual, at the end of each day after having dinner and watching videos with my guys in the living room, Tom gives my chest, arms and thighs a good massage with his two feet, with me in my favourite single seat sofa. After that, I hold Tom's face close to mine, look straight into his eyes and thank him. Every time I do that I feel sleepy instantly and my eyelids drop in a second or two. If I open my eyes and do that again, I have the same reaction, again, every time. I tell Tom not to hypnotise me. ( I tested this with his triplet Tommie and he did not have the same effect on me ).

Today I had a phone call from a representative of the "cowboy" company with which, unfortunately, I had been tied for some years. During the conversation I became very irritated with their unethical and rouge operating style. Whenever I got irritated I usually became angry. After the phone call my mind was like a choppy sea.

I regularly practise meditation as a lifestyle and it generally guides me to lead a peaceful life. But this usually takes time to calm down my mental storm. I was late for lunch and my stomach was screaming so I just headed for kitchen to prepare food. Even after lunch, snacks and videos with my guys, my mind was still unsettled. Then I remembered Tom's hypnotic "power" on me. So I grabbed Tom onto my chest and made him "hypnotise me". He did not fail and that made me laugh. After a few times endorphins flooded my system and the mental stress vanished.

Over the past five years as partners I had experienced Tom's gift to support me in various ways but this was the first time that I discovered his ability to be my instant stress buster.

Next time I have a mental whirlwind I know where to go - not the pill, not the glass ( I don't drink alcohol anyway ) but my dear old Tom.
