Is all this crappy weather Shadows fault?
Hmmm
I may have jinxed it. I had my winter tires swapped last week for the summer ones… but I didn’t put my snow shovels away! I’m sure I probably did something in the wrong sequence… 😜
agent0013 wrote: Fri Mar 22, 2024 8:12 pm Hey, if SF is responsible for this I'm not going to belittle his god-like powers by calling his will 'crappy!' Lovely weather, SF! I really enjoyed shoveling today! Ha ha! 8O

We've got a little more out West!

"Yeah! That doesn't look so bad, sister! It could be worse! There was grass here a few days ago! It's all soft and fluffy! I can tunnel through it like a mouse! Giggle!"
Not my fault! At least I don’t think so… (see above post for jinx possibilities)

Normally, I’m pretty cheery about getting out in the snow. But not this time. Who knows, maybe I’ll get into the mood later today. The snow is likely to stick around until Monday, when the temperatures are supposed to climb back up to normal.

Actually, the thing I’m the most upset about has nothing to do with snow in the Forest… it’s that the roads have all been salted again. Just when I was ready to start bike riding!!!

Flower Check!

“Cedar… has Spring finally arrived???”

“I dunno… giggle! Let’s go see!”

The weather was FINALLY behaving something like normal.

Overnight, temperatures are still dropping to freezing, but climbing back up to normal-ish during the day. I’d like to think of this as “proper” weather for this time of year… and I’m hoping the Forest flowers are doing their thing.

“The Mossy moss is still looking super duper!”

Giggle Bonus!

Frequently, I’ve got photos on my camera that I don’t post… here’s one.

It’s not because I think the photo is “bad”

Cedar doesn’t take bad photos! 😍

Usually, it’s because I take other photos that are similar, and I like those better. But that could be a problem. As creative people, we are not always the best judges of the Art we make. I’m often surprised by the photo someone chooses to acknowledge… especially when I like other ones more.

I’m realizing now, that I might not be posting the photo that you… the viewer… would love the most!

Of course, I’m not going to start posting 50 pics from every outing… that isn’t my style. But maybe I will start downloading and sharing “bonus” photos more often. As you can see, the above photo is very similar to one I shared in the body of the post. Maybe it isn’t “better” than the first one I picked…

But it is another pic of Cedar… and that’s always pleasing! 🥰

Thanks for stopping by everyone!

Well, that sounds pretty official to me!

*Glances over at Rosebud who is just slowly shaking her head in disagreement*

Yeah, we had another snow storm roll through yesterday...

All photos of Cedar are great photos! The closeup of her hand and the flower is maximum artistic! It's not my favorite of the set but it's the one that stands out the most and it's awesome! The last one is probably my favorite because she's definitely declaring summer and I dare Mother Nature to prove her wrong!

But I’m more than a little concerned that all the blooming flowers had “Snow” in their names… 😬

Hoomans Everywhere!!! 😵‍💫

I wasn’t planning on going to the Forest today… unlike EVERYONE else in the city!

“Shhhh… lemme check if the coast is clear.”

Hoomans Everywhere 1.JPG
Hoomans Everywhere 1.JPG (6.94 MiB) Viewed 164 times

I was supposed to have a phone chat with my sister this morning, but she canceled last minute.

That meant I had time to go for a walk now… but at the same time as everyone else. I usually get out to the Forest really early, before most weekend crowds have had their first coffee. But not today… today I arrived at 11:30 on a gorgeous sunny Spring Saturday.

The parking lot was 3/4 full… :crying:

“Don’t worry SF… I know how to be sneaky… giggle!”

“I gots squeaky sneaky feet!”

“Mmmm… yes. Very squeaky!” 😍

If Cedar and I were to have any privacy today, we were gonna have to walk the trails on the fringe of the Forest.

I’ve been fortunate in my life to have been able to avoid crowds most of the time. Days like today are a reminder that the Forest Cedar and I play in isn’t a wilderness, but just a small island surrounded by a sea of suburban sprawl. There are thousands of people living within walking distance of this park.

Sure feels like they’re all here today!

But it isn’t just the crowds hiking on the trail, there’s gunfire from a nearby shooting range, small airplanes buzzing overhead, and the sounds of loud conversations on the wind. If ever there was a “rush hour” in the Forest, it is now.

“Look SF, the rangers have been out cutting trees down too!”

Hoomans Everywhere 5.JPG
Hoomans Everywhere 5.JPG (5.78 MiB) Viewed 164 times

“This tree was dying… but now the moss can really take over the stump!”

I’m a little stunned… I think I actually took a photo of Cedar with the moss on the base of this tree last time we were out here. Now… the tree is gone. There are quite a few trees that have been taken down since I was last here. I can see by the look of their trunks that they were dead… likely diseased. It’s a little sad.

I’ve been coming to this park virtually my whole life, more than 50 years. I’m not gonna say I know it better than anyone, but I’ve witnessed a lot of change. There’s a particular spot on this trail that once had a large tree fall across it. 30 years ago, I had to crawl over the trunk. Now, only the barest crumbles of the tree remain.

Next time Cedar and I get out here early, I’m gonna see if she’ll pose for me by it.

“Looky! The Skunk Cabbage is growing it’s cabbagey leaves!”

Hoomans Everywhere 6.JPG
Hoomans Everywhere 6.JPG (5.53 MiB) Viewed 164 times

I’m still able to get off-trail some with Cedar… but not for much longer.

The ground around the Skunk Cabbage will be almost all bog soonish. And the sides of the trail will start becoming thick with thorny vines. Right now, getting off the trail and deeper into the Forest to play with Cedar is still manageable.

“Squeak Squeak!!!”

“Thanks for coming out to play today!”

And thank you everyone for stopping by!
