Ball and socket shoulder joint repair. Irontech doll.

Post by Tighes »

Hi guys.

I’m starting to do some repairs on my girls. One of the things I’m looking at is a loose arm on Victoria. She is a 150cm Irontech and from I can see is she has a ball and socket joint in her shoulder. Currently her arm is really loose and has no hold. Sorry, I’m trying to find the right word. If I was to hold her arm out straight in front of her, it won’t hold that position but falls all the way back down to her side.

I’ve opened her up to expose her joint thinking it might just be a nut that needed tightening but no, it’s a ball and socket and can’t figure if there is anything I need to do to tighten it. Doesn’t seem to be an adjustment option, or is it like when they go, there is no repair???

Anyone had any success in fixing these or do I just close it up and just put up with it??

This is the ball and socket joint.

Cheers

I did see that Seagull. Cheers. The repair doll I just bought had that issue, but I had to cut into her hip and tighten that joint on her. That’s fixed that problem on her.

I’m trying to look at the Irontech joint to see if there anything that looks broken but the whole joint looks OK, just really loose. Her arm is about as loose as the leg in the video.

Thanks mate!!

Here’s a closer look at the joint rotated to see the whole joint itself.

I don’t know what the metal part is under the ball. I thought at first that the ball would sit a bit closer to the very bottom in the goldish washer looking thing and the other metal thing was a brake or something. But looking again it wouldn’t fit as the ball is fairly tight in the joint as it is.

This is the orientation of the joint.

There is a welded rod that connects to the tube running to the elbow joint. I tried tightening it but it wouldn’t move. I thought it might have needed to be tightened as it looks like it might be connected to the gold washer looking part under the ball causing it to push up on the other metal part under the ball. It’s got 2 spot welds on the rod that are intact so I doubt that is and actual adjustment point.

The end of the ball goes into a rod that attaches to the shrugging joint. There was no adjustment bolt on it.

I was hoping someone would have figured this issue out for you. The only thing I could think of is to slightly cut open the other side to see how the working ball joint looks and operates. Comparing the two ball joints might help to identify the problem.

Hello Tighes1 :)
I have no dolls with this type of joint but just some thoughts which I'm sure you have considered already..

I am wondering if this red staining is thread lock which holds the shim in place which could be tapered..
