Re: Painting on silicone tutorial
They were easy to use and stayed on permanently. The paints are a two part platinum silicone mix.
For doing work on the skin, where you don't want a glossy finish, they have a special thinner that gives you a matte finish.

I'm am so afraid of applying these things to a doll because I fear that I will mess up and ruin my doll... I wish I was more knowledgeable and skilled at customization.

Works fine and mistakes are easy to fix - just wipe off and start again.
I haven't found any damage to silicone to date.
I have No experience with TPE.
And I only tend to leave it on for photo sessions, before removing it ( just in case of staining issues).
The idea of painting it on sounds clever - no compatibility issues as it is the same material.
If it is used on girly bits, would it stretch like the parent material? or being a thin veneer, would it tend to crack?

No, the Smooth-On paints are the same platinum silicone that the doll is made from so there is no fading, peeling, smearing, nothing.Xephyr wrote:It looks amazing!! But you MUST properly clean the surface (they suggest using acetone) prior to painting.

It doesn't move in the least it is permanent silicone makeup.Xephyr wrote:It looks amazing!! Does it smear at all?samara78 wrote:Wow never knew your avatar was a rose doll thunderbolt! Prepping is important. Cleaning the surface FIRST is so important. The paint I mixed is softer than my doll.
Going to experiment with body blushing soon. Requires a really clean work space and doll.

I have been moving her eyes around like crazy haven't noticed any cracking peeling or anything. Must have manipulated her eyes at least fifty times with no issues.eyespyone wrote:I have used standard ladies makeup, nail polish and lipstick on my dolls over time.

That silicone is food grade, so I'll order soon. I will practice before attempting to paint on my doll.
I think this thread is worthy of being made a sticky.

I use powder makeup on lips all the time. Never harmed a thing. Her cheeks and such are powdered. People were gently touching her cheeks and the powder didn't move at all or fade.Xephyr wrote:What happens if you apply real lipstick to a silicone doll? Does it dissolve or damage the silicone?

I gave her a nice glossy pink lips. They will be very soft when I am finished with them muah ha ha ha.
She us the reason why I learned to do it a less expensive way.
I would have painted my real doll like this had I known.
Any way here are Alice new eyebrows .
These are painted and texturized with the left overs from the lips. Ir has thickened up nicely . wait for two minutes then powder with talcum blow the powder out . Do not breath it back in . Step away for ten minutes or so. When you go bsck they will be matted down non shiny. I am entering her in a phot contest this month. Come check her out.
