Sanhui 100 cm backbone broken

Post by Boobiologist »

After one month of use my Sanhui 100 cm backbone has broke. It's body skeleton is just a steel plate with minimum cross section 10,5х2 mm with no joints.
As a new user I can not upload pictures.
The proposed reason of failure is a repeatable load from swinging legs as a doll has tight joints. Reposing might also made some impact.
What I made to "repair" it:
After cutting the back of the doll I removed the tissue witch was over the skeleton. Than I bend with pliers broken ends to be straight and connected them with a piece of rubber tubing.
Than I glued the cut with Permatex flowable windshield sealer. Now it can be used only in straight horizontal positions, but added joint in backbone made the doll more natural.

Wow good to hear you managed to repair yourself! Post a few more things to this thread or other threads and you can upload pics I think 5 or 10 in total. It would be nice yo hear or ser how the back looks after your doctors skills!

The back looks actually not so great as before. I used the technology I have learned from this forum. I applied a thin layer of glue to both sides of material, than wrapped it by clear polyethylene and than by clear tape. Despite everything was "clear" it was not actually visible if the edges are level. As a result I get about 1,5 mm offset of the edges. Now I understand why Abyss Creations recommend to use paper clip instead of tape. Then you will see if edges are level. In my case paper clip was unacceptable, but I might make a bid wooden clamp. Anyway it was my first experience in gluing silicone.

I have used push pins on silicone in the past it cures nicely. I first wrap the cling film then place pins on either side of the incision it cures nicely

Good to hear your girl is back in one piece.
Regardless of any scarring, it sounds like some successful engineering.
Some pikkies of such an operation would have been of great assistance to other dolly doctors.
The 100cm SH is a lovely doll.
Enjoy.

Bravo! You did what had to be done. Also, that you state that Permatex flowable silicone worked well as an adhesive testifies that the product works. I'm still an advocate for Sil-Poxy, but I think I'll give this stuff a try if I ever have to make another repair.

I wish that practice kits were available and suspect that I'm not the only one. No one likes to have to find out whether a method renders a good looking repair on their doll.
笑. It's good for you.

I suppose Sil-Poxy is the best, but Permatex sealer costs fifteen times cheaper for me as I bought it in the nearest automotive shop. Moreover, I believe any household clear silicone sealer will work. Just don't forget to clean surfaces with acetone.
