Adapter to fit a Sanhui head on a Doll Sweet body?

Post by joninin »

I know there's an adapter which can fit a DS head onto a Sanhui body. But, there doesn't seem to be one to put a Sanhui head on a Doll Sweet body. The DS 145 is my favorite body and the Sanhui 145 faces are my favorite. Looking to create a hybrid doll. Any thoughts?

The adapters are designed in a way to be used without having to risk or inflict damage to the parts.
The Sanhui head has a female M10( 10mm) thread that goes into the head, not sure if depth may vary but it should be about 30mm give or take a bit.
The DS neckpost has an outer diameter of ~10-10.5mm and a height of ~39mm.

If you are skilled using tools AND do not mind risking/inflicting damage to both your body and your head, here is what you can do to make this work:
Get an M10x1.5 die cutting tool such as this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HSS-M10-x-1-50- ... 0992169714
Note you will need a holding handle for it as well.
Use that on the DS neckpost to carve an outer M10 thread onto it ... if you manage, the neckpost will still work for DS heads, if you do it wrong it will break somewhere and you will need to replace the whole neck assembly which is no easy task.
Get a drill and/or an M10 thread cutter and make sure the threading into the Sanhui head is at least 40mm deep.
Doing so will likely make a hole into the inner head shell and may result in the screw protruding into the back of the mouth of an oral capable head, destroying that capability.

So, to sum it up: you are very likely to destroy either or both of your DS neck assembly and SH head inside ... but ... if ... big IF ... you manage to do both task right and do not use an oral capable head or do not mind loosing the oral capability then you could end up with the combo you want.

You may also note that in terms of proportions you may actually need a Sanhui 16x series head for a DS 145 body.

Kind regards.

Also have a look at dollstudio.org
They look 3D-printed to me, don't know how well they are made...
But I'll give it a try when I start building a hybrid (or cyborg) based on an ExLite as soon as she arrives.

Side note: the DS neckpost is made of stainless steel, so cutting threads into it needs special tools and procedures :evidence:
