MannequinFan 3D printed eyes on a JM142 doll head

Post by Mishka1965 »

MannequinFan provided me with his 3D printed eyes which I am showing here in nice large hi-res pics. I ordered almost every normal eye color and even some cat eyes, and here's the report on what I thought of them. These came in a very nice package and I got the regular WM type eyes and some JM eyeballs for the heads I have. So far I put them in my JM heads and they installed easily A small magnetic iris removal tool is excellent, and after removing the iris, you can move the eyeball around to get nice side looks.

Now I'm also showing the various eyes (custom 12mm hires Iris' from JM) I use for JM promos. On the left (pics below) the hi-res is very good with veins showing. In the right the 14mm iris is too white and not used. The MF eyeball fits perfectly in. The only adjustment I would recommend he do is to lower the crown of the eyeball so the iris sits more flush. Also, I am going to try to paint little veins at some point. I will do this with a needle dipped in red acrylic and hand painted.

I did not fit the eyeballs into any WM heads yet, but that's something I will do in a few weeks. But for now the JM eyeballs are right on. Rotating them is easy - as long as you lube the back of the eyeball, rotating them with a eraser part of a pencil is great.

This is a super nice package, and really makes the faces just more realistic. The few pics below demonstrate the few combos I tried. I also have brown, but those are not shown due to them being on a different head. None of the promo shots had any issues with lighting incidence angle that can cause eyeball glow, but since I do not use flash, just use large 3 foot diffusers and high kelvin bulbs, which eliminate hard shadows.

Enjoy the pics (I thanked my wife for making her hairdo and makeup - It's great to have a lady's touch!)

Fabulous stuff Mishka! Those cat eyes really pop!
Thanks for the nice review and excellent photos and kudos to Mrs. Mishka on the makeup!

Just so everyone knows, the MF eyeballs shown in the comparison are for the WM dolls which are the larger half rounds.
The MF eyeballs for JM are smaller full round 26mm to match the original size.

Thanks all. MF eyes really work nicely, and give a better sense of realism.
