Re: DIY TPE Toys
I have yet to mess with anything. I plan to, though.

Since I don't have the facilities to set up a work station, I'll be very interested in seeing your reports.
I barely have space for my stupid coffee maker.

Re: DIY TPE Toys
As far as the polymer goes, there are many types, and many molecular weights in each type. They all behave very differently, and mixing them in different percentages can do interesting things such as make the resulting gel more flexible, more tear resistant, less springy (I suspect SEPS helps modulate this), etc. Low molecular weight polymers tend to create a weaker gel, like is used in gel candles. I was primarily using SEBS earlier in this thread. Fleshlight, at least initially, used a mix of high molecular weight SEBS and SEPS polymers, and some additives like microcrystaline wax and mineral salts to control tack (check the patent for specifics and percentages). Who knows what they use now though.
Unfortunately, the higher the molecular weight of the polymer, the higher the gel dissolution temperature becomes, and the higher the viscosity of the melted liquid. things can get hard to work with quickly. In my undocumented later experiments I switched to stirring with a Talboys Model 409 Heavy Duty Overhead Mixer (Overkill, more akin to a drill than a stirrer tbh). The higher viscosity liquid also trapped a lot of air during the initial melting/stirring so it needed to be degassed with a vacuum chamber. One thing I never tried, which would be interesting would be to do the melting in a pressurized environment, which might help control the degradation of the mineral oil and allow reaching higher temps for longer periods of time.
I kind of got off track, testing many combinations of polymers at various percentages and molecular weights. Never did give the mold stuff another try...
Have been way too busy recently, but eventually I'll get back to it!

Thank you for your very knowledgeable, interesting report.
That's a very expensive, powerful mixer. 1/4 HP.
