Interesting article. As with a lot of other media technology, the porn industry will likely be the first to use it.
The only thing lacking with this, is the sense of touch. You can't feel what you're touching in VR (yet).

I own a Oculus Rift (both development kit 1 and 2) and I've tried the porn "experiences" that are available.

Most are pretty bad, horrible graphics, and the bodies move in a weird manner. Also some of the "models" appear like 9 feet tall with heads as big as a volley ball.

But I've also seen a couple of pretty impressive demos of static models (non-moving) which show realistic human models, and it's like they're right there in front of you. It's weird.

It appears to be very difficult to make realistic looking animated models, I've not seen any. Some "VR porn" seems to be just panorama 360° video recording, which is pretty bad as well.

However I think in 2-3 years you'll have pretty good VR porn. But how to "use" it will require some imaginative ideas

I'm more interested in "augmented reality porn", where you put something like shades on and they project a realistic looking woman into your existing environment, so she's right there with you in your apartment.

Interaction will be pretty weird I think. I mean how do you touch touch a virtual thing, or make love to it? You could use a very primitive doll which you don't see but only use for tactile purposes.

I love gadgets myself, I own a 3 year old Sony LED 55 inch TV with 3d active glasses, this technology was boasted at the time to be "revolutionary in terms of virtual reality' for movies,gaming . It hasn't done that well at all.

Bugger all support for gaming and even movies in 3d thin on the rental side, im lucky to find one copy available in 3d of a blockbuster title I know has been made in 3d for the Cinemas.

Sometimes they don't even bother doing a 3d home version. I hear they are going to retail for a thousand dollars,and not available until 2015,2016 for general public, qouting wikileaks on that statement. I hope this is fully supported, unlike 3d blu ray Ps3 and tv I have.

Yeah, i look forward to that! I reckon it would be too expensive for porn to get into 3D, Weta Workshop that does the special effects for The Lord of the Rings, Hobbit and Avatar sequels in Wellington here, spent Forty million a few years back on a new studio and equipment to do these kind of movies, by comparison a porn maker would often do their standard dvds cheaply, use thier own homes even,and boy does it show!

Poor acting, bad camera angles,elevator music playing drowning out the actors, too much,little light, i may not know how to use a camera, but for my money, i expect better,from a movie maker!

Thank you for your answer. I hope the vr porn videos will improve soon in quality.The new videos on this site seems very interesting...did you watch them too?. I agree with you ...if combining videos made to match (synchronize) the motion of a sex doll (that could be moved by a machine) the experience could be realistic in the future. I have several ideas for the machine....one for cowgirl with a sex doll riding on top.

As I said, in 2-3 years this will become very weird. Animations are apparently difficult to make realistic, but real life static models seem to be easier.

Do you remember the 90s porn? That was like the best! They had elaborate costumes, immerse stage with decorations and such, the acting was not that bad, and neither was the story.

But there's actually quite a lot of 3d porn. The Japanese seem to be best at it (no surprise there), but Europeans such as Marc Dorcel and American Penthouse to name a few also make pretty good 3d porn. The side by side 3d TV type, not the cheap anaglyph type.

Can you watch 2D HD movies in the Oculus ? How inmersive or realistic they feel , did you watch by any chance the fleshlight videos for the vstroker? I would like to try those with a sex doll in motion (by my prototype machine) using the vstroker part to mimic the videos motion
