Collective Wisdom: First Doll Purchase Advice

Post by jayo215 »

This thread is for people to add their own advice for first-time buyers, and I'm hoping if the mods agree, that it would be stickied. There are so many threads here from people who are new and looking for general advice on what to buy or what to look for, that this would make a good first thread to read.

A couple of things I think are very important:

1. Never buy a doll based on its box art. Always see what it looks like out of the box and inflated. If you aren't shown what the doll really looks like, you're probably going to be very disappointed when you do.

2. Realism: I wish this term would go away--real women aren't inflatable, they weigh more than a few pounds, they're self-warming and self-lubricating. They don't have seams and they don't have bumps or ribs or similar vaginal-internal textures the way a molded "sex toy" vagina does. Sex with an inflatable doll is different than with a human being. You have to use different techniques and you get different feedback. Many people enjoy this--I'm not knocking it--but if you expect it to be close to the real thing, you're going to be very disappointed.

3. Consider clothes and accessories. Doll sex heavily requires the use of imagination and fantasy on the part of the user. So does traditional masturbation, but not the same way. With a doll, you get stronger visual feedback than you do with your fist or with a toy like a Fleshlight. Anything you do to enhance the visuals will probably enhance your experience. Most dolls come with the bare minimum, or at best a mediocre upgrade. So consider wigs (even if only for variety) and hair clips for hair styles; glasses or sunglasses; lingerie; clothes; even some jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, and so on). Little things like that can help bring the imagery up a notch or three.

I'll add more as I think of them. Anyone else--please add your own advice.

a few more things to think about

* Leg position: air inflatables may have joints where the arms meet the shoulders, but I've yet to see one with joints where the legs meet the hips, or at the knees. Arms aren't such a problem but legs can and do get in the way, depending on the position you want to use.

Example: I had one that was in a "kneeling" position. For missionary it was a problem because if you put the doll on her back, she rested on her head and her feet with her body at a tall angle, and her knees were where your stomach would be. On her stomach, the feet were where your legs wanted to be. You couldn't put her in bed on her front or back because she wouldn't lay flat. You can address this with underinflation (see next bit below) but I never liked it.

Straight-leg dolls lay flat but again, the legs can get in the way.

* Underinflation: it's normal to blow the doll up until its fully inflated because the visuals look the best, but the doll will be at its least flexible. Consider underinflating a bit, that will make easier to move the legs out of the way or bend the doll the way you want. It will also have the side effect of shifting the air pressure as you thrust, which may make the doll look like its breathing or reacting to your thrusting.

* Mannequin (solid) doll heads look better than balloon (inflatable) heads, but will make the doll very top heavy. Not a problem if her head is supported on a bed, chair, desk, floor, etc., but not good for cowgirl or other positions where the head has no support.

One more and then I'm done, I swear.

If you can, find a video (YouPorn, Xhamster, and some of the other tube sites have doll videos. Or check in one of the doll video threads here on the forum and you'll find some links) of someone using a doll that's similar to what you want to buy. There some PG-13 rated "demo" videos that just show what the doll looks like inflated, but if you can, consider looking for the xxx-rated sex videos.

I say this because it'll give you some ideas of positions or what can be done with the doll, or what it will look like underinflated, etc. I had a doll (the one I mentioned in the first post) that knelt, and I had no end of problems with it. It wasn't until after I got rid of it that I found a video of the doll "in action." I wish I'd seen that video first--I might have been more successful. Maybe not, but it would have helped nonetheless.

8) Howdy

All good stuff - jayo215 - :thumbs_up:

With inflata-babes today - there are essentially three, (3) types

* High end - $150 > greater with {emphasis on greater} >>>>>
* Mid Range - $99 > to $150
* Value range - $25 > $99

High end has become much less limited today from years past with NANMA, (NMC) - PIPEDREAMS, (PDX) - DAIO SHI - Being the three, (3) main producers of high end air babes - now they may be sold under different brands names and or Importers dependent on where on the globe you are located - prices vary widely - do your research - as some places have no problem charging >$300 for these dolls

~ These air dolls can come with a variety of options and positions including mixed media construction (TPE Parts)
~ Have solid vinyl constructed heads with a full head of hair
~ Some might have separately inflated boobs and arms - check the spec sheet for the individual doll you're interested in
~ Inserts may either be built in or have to be applied by the owner made of TPE

Mid Range has become once again popular as price of new dolls has steadily climbed making the high end out of reach to some - again the same makers of the high end are present as well as some other new players - all come from China -

~ These air dolls can also come in positions other than missionary -
~ Most have face masks with an inflated head and a tuft of hair in the front
~ Inflated hands and feet
~ Some might have separate air chambers for boobs and arms
~ Some might have separate TPE inserts that have to be installed in the doll by the owner

Value range - one of my personal favorites come in the largest variety and can be explained in endless fashion - needles to say as Jayo points out don't expect the doll to look like the human pictured on the box - but what you can expect is a vinyl air babe made for action -

~ Prices vary widely - and do your research
~ Features vary widely as well
~ Look on the www for sites that show dolls inflated

Good luck on your doll quest - :angel:
