Why are there multiple posts of identical photo shoots....

Post by stacy718 »

I see several threads a day go up, of the SAME EXACT PHOTO SHOOT, by manufacturers and the resellers. Very, very annoying.

It pushes FAR more interesting threads off the front page and into oblivion.

Honestly, I've been around a long time... not much to ever complain about, except for this! It's stupid and ind annoying to constantly click on "new face" or "new body" threads, only to see it's the same stupid doll shoot from 4 other posters.

You all need to set up some guidelines. Seriously..

It's disappointing to me, too, as it leads all of us to click threads expecting different content, only to come across the same imagery. Even so, I don't think it would be fair to prohibit vendors from using stock photos.

That said, vendors who want to set themselves apart NEED to take their own, original pictures.

If these guys want to stand out from the crowd, try something different, try this... Image...just kidding! MAYBE

Anyway, the Wonder Woman shoot that the manufactures and vendors did was insane. There must have been eight threads with the same doll, same specs, same makeup, same photo set, same price that went on for several weeks. The N-Cup doll is trending the same way.
One manufacturer or vendor is trying to outdo the other with the same doll. Like it's their secret weapon or something. Image

I'm not condoning violence, but...Image  It's "click bait", is what it boils down to.

I don't think it's any secret that the makers and vendors want you to look.
How else would you see their offerings?
But click bait? I'll admit that's what I think when someone posts a
headline that looks interesting, only to find that you have to go somewhere
else to actually see the content, but you don't see that much here.

More like "chick" bait rather than "click" bait.
Which might be the same thing. I mean nothing will make some guys click on faster than a hot chick!
No matter how pretty she is, there is a guy out there somewhere who is tired of her shit!

"Duplication of effort" is my archenemy*. If "new doll" threads belong in a single place, logically it's the manufacturer's forum.

Why not add a poll to this thread so we can vote, "Should there be a rule against this?": yes/no.

In the meantime, here's my suggestion:
If you find a duplicate thread, post a link to the first thread. That should redirect the errant flow of comments into the original channel.

PS I would really prefer it the photographer posted the pictures, so I can ask, "Where did you buy that wig?", "Who makes those clothes?", etc. :) Most of us could do better with attribution (myself included). Maybe that's in the photo metadata though? But you shouldn't have to go to such lengths.

*Technically, Chairface Chippendale is my archenemy, but "duplication of effort" is right up there.

Unfortunately, there has to be some form of competitiveness between manufacturers and vendors or the first one to post about a new doll would take all the limelight and sales! I do agree that it is annoying sometimes as the manufacturers get the photos done and send them to the vendors so, until they actually get the new doll themselves, they are limited to the same photos! I think AH took a lot of the latest 6YE photos and he even has some on his own thread that 6YE now use! I can't really see an answer unless they don't actually appear in the 'recent doll posts' section but then we wouldn't find them to start with!

I do get your grump though Stacy! There's a lot of good threads that head to oblivion sometimes by some weird and wacky ones let alone these!

Well...for me, I see a new topic by a manufacturer that states: New, exclusive doll being offered today!. I read the new post in the new thread, great. Then I'll read another new topic...Wanna date this girl tonight? Same doll, same photo set. I go further down the other threads and read something like...Check out Samantha's new pics! I click, the same damn thing. You go down a few more threads and you read...Wow! Angie looks so hot! Check her out! You guessed it, same doll, same pics, just changes the name. :? So you have 4 new topics about the same doll, the same photo shoot within a ten minute time frame.

I totally get the idea of promoting an item to generate sales and interest, but when you have multiple new threads about the exact same product, information and pics posted within 30 minutes, it gets a little annoying. So, the titles of the new threads are different and you can't help but click the new topic hoping something new has come to light and then you realize you're just seeing the same thing over and over.
Image It's like "click bait" in reverse, the subject matter is the same, but you are caught off guard by the different title descriptions. It's not the end of the world, but it does get old fast. Plus, I'm getting better in skipping threads like that when I see them.

Yep .. easier if you get used to who does it and just move to the next one.
Then again, I don't think I've ever seen a forum where makers and vendors
both vie for the same customer's attention in the same place.

Clickbait-topics suck. I don't click those anymore at all. I wish they could be more specific in the topic about brand and model, because then I'd know if it's something I haven't seen or if something I'm specifically interested in seeing more of.

If this could be managed, I wouldn't have much of a problem with it. Maybe when someone decides to post 17 topics in a row, but well it's not that hard to scroll and click to next page.

Vendors sections can still easily be filtered out from the recent posts by admins, but then you would also cut out anything else posted in their sections which can include questions, user-reviews, and non-doll products. Could be solved with specific sections where vendors keep their commercial, but I would hate to propose another range of sub-forums on this already massive forum. Tags is another alternative, but I don't think that would work with so many different representatives.

As for pictures, well it's understandable that vendors that mostly just act as a middle-hand and not really keeping much of a stock, or any at all, are not able to take much photos themselves. There are however tonnes of great pictures sent privately between manufacturer-vendor-customer that could be used for much better representation of dolls than the overly clothed and stylized sets they provide on their site. Why not make more use of these?

It can go the other way, too. Since I market them as mannequins, and all of
my sales are face to face, customers are OK with a brochure from Rootstein or
Grennaker, but if I hand them pics of a silicone doll, we'd both prefer them with
clothing. Some photo sets I get are nothing but birthday suits.

Whether it's due to limited resources, lack of creativity, or laziness, vendors will need to grow beyond stock photography if they want to get more than mediocre or at least average sales.

Those companies that are investing the money, imagination, and energy to create original content deserve the success that results.

I hardly think it would laziness.. but lack of finances and opportunity make sense.
Vendors are all over, most of the manufacturers are in China. Not many (any?)
vendors could afford to buy one of each model (for each line they carry!) just to
shoot photos and hope they sell the used units later on. That isn't practical.

If I were a US manufacturer, I'd rent a block of hotel rooms and invite the
vendors for a weekend. I'd bring one of each model, put them in a room and
tell the vendors to bring their own photographer and stylist. They could shoot
their own sets any way they like, as well as get marketing info, sales trends etc.
Maybe drag the dolls out to the pool, too. Bring them to the lounge? There's all
sort of things you COULD do.. but how many are really practical?

Most guys just see big boobs and a nice hiney and they're sold. A nice face is
almost an afterthought.

Just like the Craigslist Escort section. A listing says 23 year old blonde hottie with D's. Another listing says 20 year old blonde DDD's and you realize she's the same girl. How on earth did she become 3 years younger and gain 2 breast sizes in just 10 minutes?
