Straightening DS neck bolt?

Post by dullahan »

My DS was a victim of some sort of cargo jam in Shenzhen and was incorrectly stored both upside down (neck down) as well as feet down for an extended periods. This resulted in the doll's metal plate and the metal rod being a bit crooked.

Would there be an easy way to straighten it? Maybe I should unscrew the plate off and see if I could straighten it with a grip tool? Has anyone done this before?

Asking before I even think of doing some DIY maintenance.

Sorry to hear about this. :( I have never removed the plate/pin on the neck, but I have tightened the upper neck joint. I accessed the upper connection by cutting the silicone down the back of the neck and peeling the neck forward to get at both sides of the bolt holding the neck pin. Seems a little extream, but the head was no longer staying in place in that direction. A bit too much use of the oral head perhaps.........

Hi dullahan,
sorry to hear this. Did you buy DS direct or through a vendor? The damage is a case frop transport insurance. Anyway I would contact DS what to do.
In my DS dolls the plate surrouding the neck bolt is riveted, so no way to remove it easily. The neck bolt is 10 mm stainless steel, not easy to bend.

As jiayi already said, no way to exchange anything without cutting the neck to get to the first bolt connection.
Not something you should have to do with a brand new body.
Best of luck with your negotiations (no matter if manufacturer or reseller)
Cheers

Thank you both for your answers. I won't be doing any DIY then.

As for shipping insurance stuff, I'll ask my vendor about it. It's not a big issue, just makes it so that the neck is a bit crooked when the head is straight. I was honestly expecting a lot worse after that amount of storing and how the shipping box looked like.

An update: I went to take a picture to show my vendor the issue but the bolt is not crooked to the left anymore. Only slightly to the back.

All I did in between was attach the head back and then took it off for pictures. No idea how it was fixed but if it stays like this, I see no need to even attempt to repair it.

Only way I can explain it is that maybe the silicone part was a bit offset in relation to the metal parts, which make it appear more crooked than it was.

As can be seen from GG’s picture, there are several joints going in several directions in the neck. I would suggest hanging her from the neck fitting (you can make your own hanging wire from a metric bolt) and let her hang from it. This may straighten out any knuckling in those joints. The knuckling could easily have happened if the neck attachment were compressed.

Yeah my vendor agreed. Especially after the issue magically resolved itself for the most part. He actually saw this thread and contacted me himself. That's some proper customer service.

I'll try the hanging wire trick if I can pull it off in my apartment.

Thank you all for the help!

Get an eyebolt thread M6 and some shackle, that will do it.
