A few questions about proper care of DS

Post by Gust »

I've read many excellent posts on TDF but there are still a few things I'm not clear about. I would greatly appreciate a bit of advice or links to relevant threads if possible:

1. What to do on day 1 of doll's arrival and how to safely wash her face?
2. Are there any specific brands of soap that are most suitable for DS? What ingredients to avoid in a soap? For example, I heard that natural soaps are not good for silicone.
3. How to wash a wig and how to avoid stains on the head from the wig / strap?
4. How to wash black and color clothes to make them safe for silicone? Does it help to wash in hot water (even if the tag says cold water only)?
5. How to safely dress a doll with a t-shirt without putting stress on the arms?
6. Are latex lubricated condoms safe to use with silicone, and should we wash the lubrication off before use?

Thank you:)

You can wash her with a mild antibacterial soap and a very soft sponge or cloth. Never submerge her in water.

A body stalking or hair stalking will help to avoid staining.
After washing and drying your doll. Feel free to powder her with corn starch and a large soft powder brush.
This will help in dressing her nicely.

Hi and welcome!

1. Put on the body and head baby powder to avoid stickness.
2. NEVER use soap! I would never do that. To clean the doll from dust or dirt always use acetone. Use baby powder after the cleaning.
3. To avoid stains, avoid black wigs and hoods or wash the wig with shampoo first.
4. Simply wash the clothes just like written on the tag. Always wash new clothes first, especially black clothes.
5. Lift up the parallel stretched arms not more than necessary. It's recommended to take off the head first.
6. Sorry cannot answer the question because I don't use my doll for intercourse.

Have a nice day!

You are not going to hear the same from everyone, so here goes:
1. Wash her body with mild liquid dish detergent, i use Dawn dishwashing liquid. I lay her down in a bath tub, with the drain open, and gently rub her with my hands and the Dawn. I never use a sponge, as it could possibly have foreign matter in it that may scratch her skin. I have a spray head which allows me to gently rinse without getting water in the neck fitting. As for drying. Do NOT rub her skin. Just dab it with a towel. Her face should be washed with soapy fingers and then dabbed with a wet cloth and then dabbed dry with a dry cloth. Pure corn starch, I use Argo, should be rubbed on by hand. You should use a soft makeup brush on her face.
2. See above
3. Wash wigs in a sink with warm water and wig shampoo (or Dawn). Do this until the rinse water is clean.
4. Wash ALL clothing in a sink with warm water and Dawn till the rinse water is clean.
5. Head off, arms out straight in front of her, slide the shirt along her arms and then stretch the head opening over her neck.
6. I only use water based lubes. Inserts are easy to clean. :)
Regards,
Jiayi

Thank you Lucky Leaf. Just to clarify, are you sure it is safe to regularly use acetone for cleaning? Doesn't it harm or dry up the silicone, or cause the body makeup to fade?

First thing to do is to offer her breakfast. She's hungry.

Then after that she'll want to go to the bathroom and get dressed.

And she wants you to be adept with the camera at all opportunities :-)

Best wishes

The International Synthetik Rights Commission (ISRC) fully endorses the statements quoted here. A nice meal and well fit clothes are a must. That said, please allow her to get dressed *before* you sit down to eat breakfast. Modesty is becoming of a lady, and you are encouraged to support her in this endevour.

It's my understanding from reading previous posts here Guest7, that only water based lubes should be used on any doll, and that most condoms that come pre-lubed are not using it. It usually doesn't say on the package the type of lube that it is, so when I was expecting my new doll to arrive, I did not take any chances, and ordered non-lubricated condoms, and used my own water based lube.

For general clean up, I've heard many members mention that they use baby wipes with good results, and the cleaning agent is mild and gentle to a dolls skin.

Actually the first thing to do is introduce yourself, THEN allow her to get dressed whilst you make her breakfast.

First, remember to breathe. Remember how you were at Christmas as a kid, its going to be like that x10. Take your time opening the box, take your time unpacking her. Her head will be separately wrapped in the box, so dont start thinking about her as a 'lady' until she is out of the box and assembled in front of you. Give yourself plenty of room and have a place for her to be put after you get her out of the box. A table is perfect as she will by lying flat in the box. If she is wrapped in a blanket or sleeping bag dont try to bend her joints until you have her out of that so you can see where her hands are. Once she's out, check her over for any damage and report it immediately if there is any. Now you may giggle :D

2. Are there any specific brands of soap that are most suitable for DS? What ingredients to avoid in a soap? For example, I heard that natural soaps are not good for silicone.

I use a standard antibacterial hand wash from the supermarket. For cleaning i installed a hook in the ceiling in my shower and used the DS hanging kit to hang her in the shower. I rinse her over with the shower (warm water), wash her with soap and my hands (no cloths or sponges) then rinse her off. For drying I bought a bunch of white towels that are specifically for my dolls. My method is to simply place the towel against her and then run my hand over the towel to press it against her, the towel doesnt move. Once she's dry I powder her in the shower, then get her off the hanging hook.

Jiayi has it spot on for washing her face. Just avoid getting water in her eyes. Her mouth is easy enough to dry out and if you kiss her with tongues you should wash in her mouth too.

3. How to wash a wig and how to avoid stains on the head from the wig / strap?

Never bothered, I usually replace them before they need to be washed as I use cheaper fashion wigs and my girls sleep in them, so they end up frizzy before the get dirty enough to wash.

Avoid stains on her head by using a wig cap, like this

Image

And if her wig is loose fitting, follow this thread http://www.dollforum.com/forum/viewtopi ... =6&t=78949

4. How to wash black and color clothes to make them safe for silicone? Does it help to wash in hot water (even if the tag says cold water only)?

Follow the items instructions, but wash it several times. Dont buy cheap clothes that are known to be overly dyed. Get her some quality stuff, she isnt going to need a huge wardrobe for general purposes

5. How to safely dress a doll with a t-shirt without putting stress on the arms?

As above. Head off, neck tipped forwards, arms out to the front, work the item up her arms, over her neck, then over her shoulders.

6. Are latex lubricated condoms safe to use with silicone, and should we wash the lubrication off before use?

If you are going to use condoms then yes, either get lube free, or wash first. But with an insert you really dont need to as the inserts are easy to clean out.

I wouldn't use acetone to clean outer skin, it's way too strong stuff and most certainly dissolves paint and other layers they spray on the doll skill at the factory.

How dirty do you think her eyelids get

Acetone or IPA is perfect for cleaning silicone dolls, but as Pumpster says it can and likely will remove things like the eyebrows, lipstick, and eye shadow put on at the factory, even thought they seal them. I use IPA for cleaning before repairs as it removed EVERYTHING from the silicone

Whoa, this is a first mentioning for me - seeing this as a warning to never use soap, but use acetone. Just curious, what are the reasons? I want to make sure that when I get my next silicone doll, I'll be more informed on how to take care of her. For my JMDolls, I had used isopropyl alcohol for cleaning, which did the job without damage to the doll. I had always thought acetone was pretty strong stuff, ever since I worked with a factory that used it to remove paints from and clean plastics, though I never worked with it or in the factory directly, just overheard conversations.
