How to properly explain my collection of anime & manga

Post by Cloud87 »

Allowed me to explain what i mean if anyone ever walked in on me or if anyone ever walked in my room & see my entire collection of gaming, anime, manga & final fantasy you'll know what i mean & understand what i mean & my concerns & before you ask me yes I'm including dolls including anime fabric dolls too as well & I'm a straight guy myself.

& yes I'm including when & if i put myself out there dating again & if i choose to & if she ever walked in on me or if she ever walked in my room they'll might question me about something from my collection & my other collection of gaming, anime & manga to be honest i don't know how to properly explain my collection & my other collection of gaming, anime & manga to them.

So i thought of asking you all in this section since some people do question you about your collection & your other collection of gaming, anime & manga & if you want to know so far no one irl knows that I'm a otaku or should i say the extint of my power level,I'm a hentai fan i love hentai & i love hentai stuff luckily yet but however.

My family including my parents & my friends do know that I'm a gamer & I'm a final fantasy fan/huge fan aka final fantasy nerd i guess they'll catch on or about to catch on sooner or later my power level i guess I'll leave it here or at least for now thanks

Who cares? Why are you ashamed of anime stuff? Dude, people will only put you down if you show that it bothers you. Someone calls you a weeb or whatever, just say yeah so what. You like what you like, dont ever let anyone take that away from you.

And dont worry about dating. If it happens it happens, or you might be like me and discover that you just want doll companionship. Nothing wrong with either way

I would look them in the eye and say "Yeah, I like tentacles. Dont ever come near me with a box of kittens whilst wearing a sailor suit, or its going to be a bad day for you"

Be proud of who you are and what you like. Life rule 1: If it makes you happy and doesnt hurt anyone else, Keep it in your life. Took me 40 years to work that one out.

This is how i would explain your weeabness to people...
"Its called hentai and its art"

If thats not enough i would quote Filthy Frank. The difference between liking and respecting japanese culture compared to a being weeaboo...

In my old house I had my room absolutely covered in anime and manga, posters all over the walls and ceilings, dakimakuras as curtains and shelves full of anime figures. I have always liked anime since I was 5 but i'm at a point now where I am selling everything because I would sooner have the money to spend on more meaningful things than figures that just stand their and do nothing. As for explaining, who gives someone the right to say what you can and can't do with your life? Just tell them to fuck off.

You do what I like, and don't feel pressured about having to explain it to people who don't understand it. Share it with like minded instead, and surround yourself with that kind of people. It's easier for people to talk shit about loners, but if you're part of a bigger group or community, and they see that you're having fun with it and even social, then they probably won't bother as they realize you're probably having more fun in your life than they do. You'd be surprised to know how common it is for "normal" people to not have any real hobbies or interests, which is just sad imo.

I have an honest question though, why do you guys tend to put all these anime-stuff up all over your room/home? I understand the joy of collecting, and that it's hard to get rid of things over time. But I've never really understood the need to have all that stuff out in the open, cluttering your whole environment.

I ask this because that's probably what most people would react to, not your burning interest in anime/manga in general. Keeping a few favorite figures out on shelves, not more than two posters per wall, and keep those huggingpillows and dolls under covers or blankets, then it will give a healthier impression on visitors, if you want. It's not really about hiding it, but toning it down a bit.

I'm not sure if you have any anime figures yourself Nord but they really are pieces of art and they cost a lot of money. To hide them would do a dis service to them. For me I wanted an anime theme to my room and that's what I got, I could showcase thousands of pounds worth of art and have beautiful girls to look at. I also painted my room completely black so I could get a better look and with my big TV as my centre piece it looked great. Compare that to a boring room with little to no furniture and it's like night and day.

However, with any hobby it dies down after time and things change. The amount of dust my figures collected was bad and it was taking over my limited space. Now I am embracing a clutter free room and selling everything I can because with age comes knowledge and now I see that the things you collect gradually start to hold you back, so the less you have the less time you spend worrying about materialistic items.

I also love manga and sexy anime girls... I also like some anime TV series. Now, do not happen to have mine displayed, but still enjoy collecting.

My wife is aware of my collection and I like sexy/erotic art... again, I just use discretion of where and how I display/enjoy.

Some women and men for that matter like erotic novels, I am not sure anyone asks them to justify them... they like it because it fulfills some interest, fantasy, or fun... Manga, anime, hentai are all the same... clearly there must be a LOT of people who like it because the market is flooded with it... So, you are not alone my friend :)

Oh hell. I wouldn't get too worried about it man! I happen to be an anime freak myself. No manga here though (they haven't made any in braille yet). Still, I like the story lines in a lot of the anime.

anyway, back on topic, be proud and show it off. Remember, us Otaku do have to back each other up. I wouldn't mind starting a collection of dolls myself (anything with textures and good shapes that my fingers can follow). I would just have to get a bigger place and a lot larger income. :)

Anyway, any girl worth her salt isn't going to fault you for your choices in Manga, Dolls and Anime. Show them the anime first and they will be hooked!

Have fun and don't worry about it!

I agree with everyone who says that other's opinions are shit. Live your life in whatever ways make you happy and find like minded people to spend time with. Life's too short to waste it worrying about such pointless things.

You should check out light novels. Always been into anime/manga but nowdays prefer reading the stories than watching them.
Novelupdates is a good place to start, I've been reading more Korean novels lately, less of those moronic protagonists.
Never really been interested in collecting anime merch so only really have manga/ln books. Wouldn't be ashamed of those or care what anyone thought.

As for OP, I don't really see an issue with the otaku/weeb stuff, the hentai could be more of an issue. Less common, but woman are into anime/manga/hentai also, my first introduction to hentai was thanks to a female friend. Just don't make it your opener.

While this is a fairly old thread the topic has happened to me. I had a family member make comments about my anime collection once. I no longer own statues etc as I have downsized to live a minimalist lifestyle. I told them anime and manga was the same as collecting comics. As for the statues I asked them "would you rather see a statue of a cute girl doing badass things, or some guy in tights?" They never commented on it again.
